Amazon has deleted the account of a transgender woman who used the social media site to vent her frustrations over the gender binary and her gender identity.
The account, which belonged to Lauren, has since been reinstated after a week of backlash from her peers and followers.
Her account has been suspended and she has been banned from Amazon’s commenting system.
“I am shocked and disappointed at how Amazon has responded to this issue.
I have never been banned before and I have a strong desire to continue to use this site as I always have.
I do not want to lose my business and I do believe that all of my friends, family, and colleagues have similar feelings about me,” she said in a statement.
Lauren has used the platform to post messages on Facebook and Instagram about her gender and gender identity, sharing stories of discrimination and how it affects her daily life.
She wrote:”I have been in the business for over 5 years, and I’ve always been treated equally by my coworkers, customers, and friends.
I know that there are many people who don’t understand what it means to be transgender, but I don’t think there’s one person who has been more misunderstood than myself.
I hope Amazon’s apology is a wake up call to everyone that I’ve come to love and respect for my amazing and courageous journey.”
